RIAS Consultancy was established by the RIAS in 1994. We have unrivalled experience in managing the full range of competitive processes for selecting design teams, from 'competitive interviews' through to design competitions.
Our experience is particularly relevant in the context of helping public sector clients where projects must follow EU Procurement Rules, including the need to provide a robust audit trail.
Our client list is extensive and includes Audit Scotland, Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, Scottish Enterprise, Royal Blind, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scottish Arts Council, Scottish Executive, Scottish Museums Council, The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, The Royal Observatory, NHS Lothian and many of Scotland's universities, colleges, councils, housing associations and arts venues.
We provide an impartial and multi-disciplinary source of advice to clients of the construction industry consistent with their existing level of knowledge and experience of construction procurement.
Our aim is to create better-informed clients of the construction industry, from those who use it regularly to the occasional client whose need for a building project is infrequent and who cannot be expected to fully understand the complexities involved in the process.
We are at the forefront of the new techniques being introduced to improve quality and value in construction such as:
- risk and value management,
- balancing quality and price in the selection of design team consultants and contractors,
- key Performance Indicators and Design Quality Indicators
as well as the more basic functions of successful building procurement which include:
- Preparing a brief,
- choosing a procurement route,
- controlling cost and programme,
- maintaining quality,
- interpreting information from consultants and contractors,
- energy-efficient design and sustainable development.
Our clients come from both the public and private sectors. In addition to 'better-informed client' services, a number of specific commissions have been completed in relation to the preparation of:
- Case studies of completed projects,
- conference, seminar and workshop presentations,
- guidelines for project monitoring,
- databases of consultants' experience,
- procurement strategies.
