The internal paint and plaster finishes to various areas of the church walls were spalling. The causes were traced to poor (original) locations of rainwater goods, stone details trapping water and failing pointing. A grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund enabled high level gutter repairs (by Steeplejack), some downpipe relocation and new drainage connections, lead flashings to stonework to help shed water and lime mortar re-pointing to South Transept. This was followed by internal lime plasterwork which was coated using a fully breathable paint so wet stonework continued to dry out.
