For years a derelict site without suitable development design or density. To unlock the potential our research considered Contextual, Historical and General Background. Built as a model village in 1934 to relocate mining families from squalid housing in Standburn, Westquarter had a profound impact.
The challenges of a model village were compounded by the mining legacy, services infrastructure limitations, the necessary development density, plus a confined access road and site.
In granting Planning Permission the Council stated our design & layout was of a 'high and appropriate standard'.
