Alteration and Extension to Ground Floor Apartment

Richard Hall Architect

The apartment had a traditional wash house extension with a modern bedroom extension. The kitchen lacked linkage to the garden and daylight. The brief was to design a contemporary extension to maximise natural light into the existing house and into the new bedrooms and shower room in the new extension. The rear of the building faces west and so the design maximises natural light with a saw-tooth roof. The house is flooded with light from early afternoon and the sun sets onto the timber terrace, which links the existing kitchen and all of the bedrooms.
