West Shore Private House

Richard Gibson Architects

A single bedroom summer house. Partial demolition of the derelict croft house leaves the remaining part as a sheltered courtyard and boat store. The new house has the same footprint, but turned through 90° to benefit from morning and evening sun. The open plan living space has a bay window orientated for early sun with a west facing conservatory, lobby and link to the courtyard and boat store. The roof is designed as a solar heat collector from which the ventilating system distributes warm fresh air to the living spaces. I.A.A. Local Award for Best New Building & S.A.T. Environmental Award Winner.
