Reiach and Hall won a design competition for a new office building for Dundee City Council in 2006: objective is to co-locate 900 staff in a single new civic building with all the synergies that should achieve. The site is that of the former D C Thompson printing works and the original listed machine hall is incorporated into the new building to form a dramatic arcade. The building is designed on sustainable principles with a narrow floor plate to allow natural lighting and ventilation, and the contrast in building fabric between new and old is consciously juxtaposed
