Our proposal for 167 Kingsgate responds directly to our clients design brief of a modern open plan living concept with an industrial theme.
The creation of a modern monolithic grey block was aimed to link with the existing grey granite and grey aluclad windows which have been updated throughout the dwelling. In due course it is the intention to replace the tiled roof with welsh slate to complete the modern grey material palette.
The space we have designed is a response to the requirement of a large entertaining kitchen / dining space which opens out to a secure private decked area for the clients young children. We have also included the provision of an internal bi-fold door to separate off the formal living space as required.
With the extension facing a boundary of the site we have introduced 3no feature skylights which not only bring light into the space but act as a feature for the kitchen working area.
As the extension is linked with a large area of the existing dwelling we proposed to expose a 7m long steel beam to highlight how the structure of the extension integrates with the existing dwelling.
