St Benedict's Abbey, Fort Augustus

LDN Architects LLP

Fort Augustus was built originally as a military fort and later converted to a monastery and school. Its unique history, buildings and setting on the shores of Loch Ness are of national significance. It stood empty, its fabric fast deteriorating due to water ingress and rot.

However, The Raven Group acquired the Abbey in 2003 and quickly developed proposals to secure its future. LDN were commissioned to develop ideas to convert the Abbey into residential use. A scheme of restoration, conversion, selective demolition and sensitive new build which created over 90 units plus leisure facilities was completed in 2012.
