Located on the site of a former disused single-storey pitched roof community hall building in a prominent, gently sloping corner site of Juniper Green village, each townhouse offers accommodation that consists of expansive open plan living, kitchen/dining area with large areas of glazing opening onto the south facing garden along with a utility room and cloakroom. Design is central to the build. There are vertical strips of curtain wall glazing, to both front and rear elevations, which visually separate each of the houses and allows natural light to penetrate the properties on all three floors. The upper two storeys are pushed forward to create an overhang to the main entrance forming a semi-covered two car parking area.

To the rear, the ground floor protrudes to create a first floor roof terrace with frameless glass balustrades allowing uninterrupted views over the south-facing rear gardens and stunning distant views to the Pentlands beyond. Detailing throughout is simple and crisp featuring high-quality, durable and timeless materials based on the subtle combination of dark bronze matt finished aluminium framed full-height glazing and handmade clay buff-coloured facing brickwork.

Vertical timber fin screens control privacy and views at both the front entrance area and the first floor roof terraces to the rear of the properties. This timber fin aspect is echoed in a pergola entrance overhang, open tread internal stairs and boundary fencing with storage units to the private landscaped rear garden.

This is a particularly unique development in terms of its design and build. The vision was to create contemporary and desirable family homes hallmarked by the quality of their design. We also needed to consider the fact that the surrounding residential properties vary vastly in terms of their design and aesthetic. We strive to take architectural design to new levels and have ensured that Woodhall Drive has its own character that’s progressive and reflective of our design ethos and Glencairn’s vision for the development.
