JWD were appointed to design and deliver a new build house for a young couple on the family farm.
Recognising the relationship between two redundant buildings on the site, we proposed two traditionally proportioned forms connected by a smaller linking section. Dividing the house into two distinct zones allowed us to clearly separate the living and sleeping accommodation.
Large areas of glazing were proposed in the main living areas to maximise solar gain and reduce reliance on the heating system.
A combination of wet-harl render and timber cladding was proposed to compliment the reuse of the salvaged stone from the existing buildings on site.
