Farmhouse, East Lothian

Ian Parsons Architect

The Steading was formed around a courtyard. The West Barn was the Mill and Granary, the North Block was two of one and a half storey cottages. The Cottages were rebuilt as one two storey house of Georgian proportions and detailing, with a timber frame first floor built-off the ground floor walls. Walls were rendered with lime mortar on reinforcing mesh; avoiding movement joints. The renovated West Barn and new connecting link were designed with modern details and flush glazing. Sandstone rubble walls and the brick chimney were repaired and re-pointed with Lime mortar. Main Contractor CBS. Engineer David Narro Associates.
