Grania Oi

edge Architecture & Design

Grania Oi is part of a group of five barrel houses all designed by different individuals. The basis of each house is a 6.7m diameter 'marrying vessel' from the nearby Speyside. This design uniquely raises the vat onto a stone base. This, combined with excavating, provides the opportunity to retain that very special experience of the full round within the dwelling. A spiral stair links a series of interlocking spaces on four different levels. Still home to the original client, now in her eighties, Grania Oi remains exemplary, primarily as a result of the dedicated team involved in it's realisation.
