Phase One of the sudios comprises creative workshops and an events space within Barras area for new studio provider Glasgow Collective. Our brief was to take an historic industrial space on East Campbell Street and create a flexible working environment capable of providing individual studios, coworking space as well as a large events space. The space, while now including some sub-division, still revolves round the open- plan floorplate. The existing columns are use to create different subdivisions within the space as required. This can be reinforced with flexible partitions.
The central events space has a direct relationship with the rental spaces. Each of the tenants (events companies and artisan food/drink suppliers) is able to commandeer the space for a range of different purposes. A catering kitchen supports the central events space meaning the ability to accommodate events as diverse as Restless Natives, streetfood festivals, gigs as well as the Archifringe launch.
Following the successful completion of Phase 1, Dress for the Weather were asked to develop proposals for Phase 2, the conversion of a retail space on Gallowgate. This phase included further creative workspaces centered around a communcal meeting space. The refurbishment of the public facade was also undertaken as well as works to connect Phases 1 + 2 across an external courtyard.
