New House at Strathblane

Donald Bentley Architect

Designed to appear as a single detached house, this project is actually two generous main door apartment flats. Built in the garden of the client's former house, the clients saw the opportunity for to self-build new highly insulated/low energy homes into which they and a friend planned to 'downsize'. Each apartment has three bedrooms with generous open plan kitchen living rooms, utility room and cloakroom. The upper apartment has a top lit hall and feature oak trusses in the living room which opens onto a terrace enjoying south facing views across open countryside. The 'house' is built using high quality materials and finishes throughout including natural slate roofing, natural sandstone walling, copper cladding and solid natural oak internally. Kitchens are Bulthaup by Cameron Interiors. The apartments are highly insulated, have full underfloor heating - linked to solar thermal panels and secondary boilers. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery is fitted throughout.
