Conversion of former water storage structure to form dwellinghouse

DMT Davidson Associates

The site was a former water storage tank constructed around the beginning of the twentieth century to provide a controlled water supply to the village of Torphichen.

The brief required that an energy efficient house ascribing to the principles embedded in ‘passive house’ design be created.

The client wanted the building to use techniques and technologies designed to minimise the carbon footprint.

The building form and orientation was determined by the former structure.

The principal design aim required a distinctive visual importance be created using modern materials that would present a cohesive design approach reflecting the technology embedded within the building environmental design.
