Methlick Wood

David Murray Associates

The distinctive layout of this rural housing development comprises 51 houses arranged around a formal looped access road. Its form acknowledges the formality and hierarchy to be found in planned villages. The buildings are arranged on an efficient orthogonal grid so the development reads as streets framing green public spaces. Soft and hard landscaping and a limited palette of materials, along with sculpture, give the new development a sense of place. The two principle house types, each having a number of handed and elevation options, demonstrates a control of scale and proportion whilst giving due consideration to their surroundings.
