Extension to the Laundry House

Colin Smith + Judith Wilson: Architects

The extension is an exact echo of the original building but there similarities end. The glazed west gable is in striking contrast to the solid sandstone gable of the original and lower roofs make the new buildings sit visually apart. The curved roof enables a full height second storey, whilst keeping the ridge low, and is expressed internally in curved plywood. The hub of the house is an internal glazed courtyard and all rooms are orientated to take full advantage of natural light and views to the Angus Glens. A Victorian Laundry has been transformed into a contemporary house.
