General Engineering Research Institute

BPA Architecture

In addition to housing workshops for the Department of Mechanical Engineering the General Engineering Research Institute undertakes cutting edge testing and research for industry. Paradoxically it had the least impressive premises on the University's Byrom Street Campus. BPA had completed the overclad of most of the earlier buildings on the campus (total value £5.4m) and were commissioned to bring the workshops up to the same level and add a new-build resource centre and presentation facility for visiting clients. The project involved extensive ground works to create the site.
