Bonnington House is at the centre of Jupiter Artland, a very fine sculpture park and visitor attraction west of Edinburgh. Work involved obtaining consent for two new wings to an A-listed Country House and part-refurbishment to the existing.
The design was based on careful historic studies and analysis of contemporary needs, inspired by the 1747-55 Roy Map which clearly showed wings. The massing respects both the new formal avenue and the existing picturesque approach. New detailing is sympathetic but original, with excellent workmanship and involving artists. This approach is followed internally; the plaster ceiling of the Ballroom took two years to make.
