The new building at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen comprises the departments of pharmacy and life science, computing, engineering and library facilities, and consolidates all the University's academic facilities onto one riverside campus. Sitting on the banks of the River Dee, the building form seeks to respond to its context by taking maximum advantage of the views and amenity offered by the riverside location. The building is arranged as two 'shallow plan' linear teaching blocks grouped around an internal street and courtyard space. The majority of teaching accommodation is arranged on the north face where maximum benefit can be made of the diffuse, natural north light. More socially centred spaces, such as the refectory, face south towards the river.
