The brief for this project called for a 22 unit social housing development including disabled housing units. This was a challenging project given a brown-field site within an outstanding conservation area. The brief also demanded generous car parking facilities, including for the disabled. The site is located within walking distance of Stornoway town centre on a relatively high elevation and surrounded by a mixture of residential, public, and commercial buildings. Part of the challenge was to conceal the scale of the development and at the same time retain privacy to adjoining properties whilst optimising outlook for the new residents.
