District 10 0.1 is Scotlands first commercial office building made out of recycled shipping containers and will accommodate start-up businesses in Dundees new creative media hub. The development, on a former railways goods yard, forms an integral part of the citys long term strategy for waterfront redevelopment.
The brief was to deliver a brand building that was distinctly creative and dynamic. The 1980s computer game Tetris provided the influence for the abstract external mosaic. The part pre- assembled nature of the building allowed rapid construction and completion over a six- month period. The 37 30ft containers connected together to form 15 individual leasable units.
