The design approach to Daliburgh Primary School stems from the rural context of the Western Isles and the clients brief, which sought a building to support 21st- century teaching through innovation and design. The form of the building takes on the appearance of a rectangular A with the central facilities on the middle crosspiece, facing both the entrance and internal courts.
The classrooms face outward and the corridors inward to the court on both legs connecting the crosspieces. Visibility was provided across the internal court between the central facilities, the library and linking corridors, which in turn provided glazed screens into classrooms and activity spaces.
