Project Description

This proposal for urban housing at Glasgow Green intends to formulate a new connection to Glasgow’s city center and the Merchant City: it aspires to develop an achievable, realistic and appropriate scale of urban development in its historic context, alongside both The Barras and Glasgow Green. The existing architecture of the site stands in opposition to the urban fabric of Glasgow and does little to capture the qualities of natural beauty that are so prevalent. In response to this, the proposed built form was directly informed by the inherent qualities of the site, and more specifically, Dawn & Dusk. We utilized solar analysis and angles of the sun to create axial routes that compliment the existing geometries of Glasgow’s urban form. These create and exhibit daily moments of joy: when architecture first appears in the morning sun; and when architecture falls away to the sky and stars beyond.
