Situated in a residential district of Pollokshields East in the south side of Glasgow, the building reflects the nature of the Butoh dance while providing the area with flexible spaces for the use of the local community.
A square is formed that further integrates the building to its surrounding context. The result is a building that is both accessible and flexible whilst evoking the austere aesthetic of Butoh.
The housing scheme aims at providing accommodation that caters for the needs of creative professionals. Within each flat a separate working space is provided, which allows the residents to work in an intimate atmosphere at a chosen time.
The masterplan proposal includes ground floor markets where residents can sell their goods. Four blocks contacting them border a main square that holds events such as Merchant City Festival.
