Project Description

The starting point of this study, is the current masterplan for Dundee's Central Waterfront area, proposed by the City Council. The study strove to both analyse and propose; to generate reasoned urban solutions for Dundee's Waterfront.

Representative of this analysis, boards 1-5 detail examples of discrete investigations into: surrounding context, boulevards, public space, wynds, and theoretical massing studies within a detailed contextual model.

Boards 6 and 9 contain images of one of two masterplans the group developed in-depth. This scheme maintains a traditional 'Urban block' form, closely aligned with the council's masterplan, but with a number of alterations, notably the redistribution of open space.

Boards 7 and 10 describe the second masterplan, a critical foil to the previous. Conceptually developing from the idea of walled city fortifications, this scheme forms a perimeter wall of accommodation circumscribing campus style development.

Board 8 describes the unifying elevational language developed for the masterplans.
