About the project

Ayrshire Central Hospital comprises a number of Grade B Listed properties including the former gatehouse. The gatehouse sits remote from the rest of the hospital buildings and therefore was ideal for a building requiring discretion and sensitivity for patients. The building was however too small to meet the NHS accommodation requirements and so a very careful design solution was adopted to create an extension to the rear being twice the size of the original building. It was agreed with the Planning Authority that the new building design would respect the existing building without reverting to pastiche.
