About the project

Located on a steep sided natural levee overlooking the River Dee, this private home is designed not to be seen from afar, melting into its forest surroundings. The geometry of the pitched roof is marked by a pronounced skew, creating a lofty interior along the centreline of the house, but with an overall form that sinks much lower to the ground at the diagonally opposed corners. The centre of the house is anchored around a two storey granite pillar containing the fireplace and hot water system – the granite mass forms a large ‘thermal battery’ in the centre of the home.
