About the project

This pair of family homes were built under the Scottish Government's pioneering Rural Homes for Rent scheme, which linked public and private finance to provide affordable private rented housing in small rural communities. Passive solar gain from south-facing glazed porches is combined with internal thermal mass, and wood pellet stoves, to achieve excellent energy performance. The compact design makes full use of the roof height internally while also providing generous flexible living spaces on the ground floor. The I-stud timber frame is clad with a rainscreen panel system, with acrylic render.
