About the project

Thanks to an innovative structural solution, a typical Edinburgh Victorian end terrace is transformed to create an extraordinary kitchen space.

Significant alterations included the removal of the load bearing corner of the building. A new cranked beam arrangement enabled the open plan, without the need for the expected column that would compromise the space.

In addition to the timber framed folding sliding doors across the rear of the property, a glazed roof light runs above the length of the kitchen, allowing light to pour into the space all day.

Concealed storage, neutral marmoleum flooring and polished concrete work surfaces complement the simple spatial arrangement that belies the complex structural work behind the scenes.
