The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and the City, opened in July 1999 as part of Glasgow's year-long festival of architecture and design. Situated in the first building designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the centre has seen the restoration of a structure which bears many of the hallmarks of the architect who was to become one of Glasgow's most famous sons. For the first time, this book records the many changes the building has seen during it's life, and shows how, with a new extension designed by Glasgow architects Page and Park, The Lighthouse brings a vital new resource to Scotland.
