The Charles McKean Memorial Prize - Applications Invited

The Charles McKean Memorial Prize is open to all students of Architecture, Architectural Conservation and Architectural History in Scotland. The winning entry will receive a £1,000 prize.

Supported by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS), the Scottish Castles Association (SCA) is sponsoring a £1000 prize in memory of the late Professor McKean, a former CEO of the RIAS and President of the SCA. He was a leading architectural historian and critic, a prolific author and former Chairman of the UNESCO Edinburgh World Heritage Trust among many other leading roles. The Prize intends to keep alive Professor McKean’s legacy to architecture and history.

The climate emergency has brought into focus the importance of conserving historic buildings and the contribution they can make to the environment and local communities when they are given a new purpose. However, many of these castles and tours today are in ruin.

Deadline for Submissions is 5pm on 15th September 2022, however please email with advance notice of your intention to submit.
