RIAS are pleased to announce that a donation of £5,000 from the ticket sales of our 2020 Annual Convention has been made to the Architects Benevolent Society (ABS). A huge thank you to all who purchased a ticket for this event and enabled us to support the vital work of ABS.
The donation will kickstart the ABS Foundation of Support campaign providing a renewed focus on their core support services. As a membership body it is vital that we support a charity that helps our members through tough times with services such as money and debt, employment, housing advice, mental health and wellbeing and physical health and disability.
Last year was unprecedented for so many, including ABS who saw a 60% increase in those contacting them for support due to the pandemic. RIAS was on hand and helped immediately by spreading the news to our members about the support on offer from ABS, as well as making donations that will benefit our members in Scotland and the wider architectural community across the UK.
ABS President, Jane Duncan OBE PPRIBA Hon FRIAS says
“The RIAS gift of £5,000 will be an excellent contribution toward kick starting this Foundation Of Support campaign… This past year has been like no other for so many, including ABS as we continue to navigate our way through this pandemic. I can assure you that generous gifts like this are needed more than ever, so we can continue our efforts in helping the many individuals and families that turn to us for assistance. “
ABS has changed a lot since its inception in 1850 but the aim of providing support tailored to individual needs and designed to improve people’s lives has remained the same throughout their 170 years.
ABS Chief Executive Rob Ball says
“In my time at ABS I have seen much positive change come into effect, such as forging new partnerships with organisations such as Shelter and Anxiety UK, that prevent people from falling on hard times. These partnerships have enabled us to help more people year on year… Thank you to the RIAS for all their continued support”
