The RIAS is pleased to share the announcement by the RIBA UK and National awards programme that the new call for Awards entries will be next year – for the 2022 Awards.
Aligning with the national programme, the 2021 RIAS Awards will be selected from the 2020 shortlist.
The RIAS will continue to build on its eligibility and judging criteria, working with the RIBA, and, from the 2022 RIAS Awards, it is expected that project entries will require to have been in use for one year. Bringing forward this change will enable judges to assess buildings with even more detail on their performance, and more extensive client feedback.
RIAS President Christina Gaiger said:
“I am pleased that the 2021 RIAS Awards will focus on judging and celebrating the fantastic projects that we could not visit this year. In addition to being the fairest outcome, it also provides an opportunity to implement plans to significantly refresh the benchmarks for the awards, and the criteria on which projects are judged. The RIAS set out a commitment to champion environmentally sustainable and socially responsible approaches to design in its strategy, Creating Space for Inspiring Conversations. To protect biodiversity, tackle the climate emergency and to advocate for inspiring designs that promote circularity and well-being. I am delighted that from 2022 we will be able to demonstrate this through our awards programme.”
