About the project
This major new artwork for Scotland was conceived by American artist James Turrell. Brennan &Wilson Architects where commissioned to undertake the detail design and oversee the construction of this piece located in a remote glen. The Skyspace allows the observer a unique progression of sensory experiences both aural and visual. The steep steps draw you in to an oval shaped room with smooth white walls. Your eyes are cast up to the ceiling, where cut into the roof is a perfectly formed circular hole. The sky appears strangely flat, and the colour and light accentuated by the lense effect of the opening.
